Dear Friends,

I have some sad news to impart. Some of you may know by now from others or from the press, and some not.

My friend, Jack Garda (aka Keshava, John Garda), uncharacteristically disappeared on 8th February. After 2 weeks of not knowing what happened, his body was retrieved in the Broadwater area south of Ballina, and the alleged perpetrator was charged with murder. Other charges have also been laid.

The detectives are not disclosing much more at this time because the investigation is ongoing, and so is evidence gathering.

Needless to say, it’s been a horrendous time for family, friends and staff.

In trying to relate this devastating news, I’m not sure my words will do justice to the wonderful person, and kind, loyal friend Jack was to the many people he knew in the Shire and beyond. I doubt I can adequately express the huge hole that has been left in many of our lives as a result of his sudden, untimely and undeserved passing.

Despite waiting all this time, the Coroner has not yet finished that side of the investigation and so firm arrangements for the body cannot be made at this time.

The following is taking place for Jack this Thursday. Because of the short time-frame, you are encouraged to pass this along to people who want to attend, but who may not otherwise know:

EVENING SERVICE

After the evening service at Chabad House (1/22 Brigantine Street, Byron Industrial Estate) this Thursday, 11th March at 7pm, we will recite a few psalms in honour of and to benefit Jack’s soul.

You are all very welcome to attend.

SANYASSIN CELEBRATION OF LIFE

On Thursday at noon, there will be a Sanyassin-organised gathering with information coming to me as follows:

A service (first part) and celebration of Keshava/Jack’s life will be held on Thursday 11th March at Mullumbimby Civic Hall beginning at 12 noon.  All who knew and loved him are welcome to attend.

Veet will be catering the formal part of the service, and we welcome any additional contributions to supplement this as well as to sustain us during the later celebration.

Short article to appear in this week's Echo.

Please feel welcome at either/both venues.
